Our 2011 tournament season begins this Saturday. We are attending the Spring Round-Up hosted by Stampede Flyball Racing Team. It has been 5 LONG months since our last tournament. Needless to say, we are a little excited.

Spring tournaments seem to always be filled with debuts of our newbies, and this year is no exception.

Michelle will be debuting with Dharma, lower left. Dharma and Michelle attended our Intro to Flyball class. Dharma found her calling. She continued to our next class, and the fever set in. We are so excited to see her run this weekend and will be looking forward to seeing what Michelle uses as her reward. Let's just say Dharma likes shiny silver objects :-)

Next up we have Josie and Suzie, lower right. Josie and Suzie are active in agility and herding. We think Suzie is more excited to attend her first tournament than Josie! Suzie loves passing and being in the line up. Both Suzie and Josie have a very competitive spirit!

Next up was to be Elana and Litchi, upper right. Unfortunately, Litchi recently hurt her rear leg, so she won't be attending. She too took our Intro to flyball class and caught on to the game very fast. She is active in agility and Splash Dogs.

And last, but not least, Calamity Jane, upper left. It's been a long road for Cyndi and Calamity. So many fears for Calamity to conquer, and thru hard work, she has! We are excited for both Cyndi and Calamity. She loves Course a Lure, but has been showing that same love for flyball.

While we have so much excitement, there will also be a hint of sadness this weekend. It will be UTBs, and Cyndi's, first tournament without our beloved Lucie. But, we have a feeling she will be there in spirit. We actually witnessed her spirit at practice this past week. Lucie loved to do a little shake right out side the start gates on her return. Her terrier silblings have never done the "Lucie". But Sunday, Dezzie did!! We all stopped in our tracks and looked at each other. "Lucie!", we exclaimed. She was letting us know that even though her body was no longer with us, her spirit is alive and well in her family and UTB.

Tomorrow we are off to the 16th Annual Touch N Go Jumps N Jackpots tournament. Needless to say, we are stoked. The tournament sort of has a Halloween theme. This enables us to get a little "wild" with UTB green.

We will be running two teams. We are also running a few pairs and singles. Bailey2 will be making her flyball debut. We are so excited to see how this gorgeous and exuberant black lab does in the lanes. Below she is posing on the box. It is just one of the many talents. Another of her famous talents is jumping orange fencing to show her enthusiasm at flyball! She even has scary Halloween eyes in the photo below . Bailey is prepared for the tournament!

While we are all very excited about this weekend, it is bittersweet. This is the last tournament with UTB for Aimee, Socrates and Cynic. They are starting a new adventure out East. But the good news is that they will continue flyball; just with another "green team". We thank Cynic, Aimee and Soc for years of flyball fun and wish them best on their new journey. We will miss you all very much.

It's a weekend of firsts for some of our dogs.

Tuffy will be making his team debut.

River is making his team debut and running in start position. His mom ROCKS at starts. The question of the weekend will be "How low can he go?"

Cynic is making his debut in singles. We are so excited for him! He and Aimee have worked really hard to get to this point. We all have our paws and fingers crossed!

Chill, our newest member, will be running for the first time with UTB. Chill comes from great JRT lines and we know he will ROCK!

Recap of First 2010 Tournament

We attended our first tournament of the 2010 season.
Lots of highlights.

Let's start with our newbies.

River made his debut, running in singles and doubles. His fastest time in singles was 4.155. You can watch the speed demon run here.
Tripp made her debut in singles and doubles too. She also made her team debut on Sunday. Her fastest singles time was 4.574. You can watch her singles run here.
Tuffy returned to singles and doubles - and the light bulb went on! Watch him run here .

Team Runs

Saturday we did not fare too well, as we were in division #2. We had some great competitive racing, but we just couldn't run that fast. It was great racing against teams we usually don't get to race against.
Sunday we actually took 2nd place in division 3. We were all so surprised and looked at each other like "WHAT??!!"! We had 5 neck and neck heats with Atomic Dogs. They beat us by a sliver of a second each time. Those heats were so exhilarating!
Both Tripp and Bailey ran on Hell Razers to help the team out. We thank them and their handlers for stepping in. We also want to thank Jenna from Stampede for stepping in and running Hannah B during a race against her own team!

Titles

New Titles were awarded on Sunday. Lucie received her TFP, Hannah B her TFE-I, and Jake his TFP-I.
Tripp earned her very first U-FLI title - TF
Zoey is now the highest pointed Kelpie in U-FLI. w00t w00t!

HUGE MOMENT!

We watched Touch N Go break the world record. Talk about exciting!!!! The new record is now 14.923. You can read about the team line up and the amazing run, here.

Retirement

The bittersweet moment of the weekend was Lucie receiving her TFP and her retirement. But she went out with a bang! Not only did she run on Hell Razers and help them secure 2nd place on Sunday, but she also helped our newbies in singles and doubles. UTB wouldn't be where we are without this girl. We thank her with all our hearts for 10 years of giving us all she had in the flyball lanes. Below is a video of her title run.

Good times, team work, and the support of fellow flyball peeps helped UTB reach the goals we had set for the weekend. Thank you!

Next up, a few team mates will be traveling to Vegas to participate in Fly N' Aces very first tournament, Need4Speed, at the Las Vegas Speedway in April. We are excited to particpate and see some flyball friends we don't see enough of.

UTB is preparing for their first tournament of 2010. We will be heading to Stampede's Spring Round Up in Saint George, UT.

River and Tripp will be making their debut this weekend. We are stoked to see them hit the flyball lanes. They both have come such a long way and we are excited to see what this weekend brings for them. Tuffy will hit the lanes in his second tournament, running singles and doubles.

It will be a bittersweet weekend for us. The heart and soul UTB height dog, Lucie, will be retiring after this weekend. She has been one of the core dogs for us, and it has come time for her to pass the torch. Let's do Lucie proud, help her go out with a bang and her TFP title.

Dezzie came thru surgery like a champ.
Unfortunately, her meniscus was also torn :-( She will be at the vet the rest of the day and will have a lazer treatment on her repair prior to going home this evening.

We wish little Dezzie a speedy recovery and can't wait till she is fully healed. Cyndi - we are here if you need anything. Hugs to both of you.

Viva Las Vegas

In the beginning of December, a few UTB members went to Vegas to attend Rude Dogs West first tournament.

We ran pick up with some fellow flyball players from Mad Dogs Flyball. Running on the team were Frances, Hank, Zoey, Bailey, and Jake. Levi also attended and warmed up on Sunday. Pete came too and just chilled.

Here are some highlights from the weekend;

Zoey earned her TFP.

Bailey ran successfully, all weekend, with a new handler. And her new handler did a very awesome job for her first tournament.

Frances won an award-Most Personality.

Ann won an award too - Handler with the most Flare...

We had THREE perfect starts that weekend; one each day by Tracy and one on Sunday by Jana.

It was amazing to watch five dogs, whom have never met, run together on a team without any troubles . It showed us just how much the dogs love the game of flyball.. HIGH FIVE to those fantastic, flexible dogs!

Zoey and Baily ran pairs on Saturday. Their team was called "Double Trouble".

Jake and Hank, whom we believe are brothers from another mother, ran doubles on "What??!! I can't hear you!". It was something Ann and Tracy have been planning for a long time. You can see one of their Sunday runs below;

We had a blast meeting tons of people from teams we don't usually see. A huge thank you goes out to those people who helped us from calling passes, setting jumps, writing times, box loading, ball shagging -etc. Gotta love the helpfulness in the flyball world. And thanks to Rude Dogs West for putting a tournament on in December.

Outside the titles, awards, and performances, we want to thank the gals from Mad Dogs and their dogs for driving the long journey to run pick up with us. It was a pleasure to run with you and your dogs. Oh yea - and thanks for hooking us on Trader Joe's!!!

The Newbies Share their Thoughts...

We polled the dogs this Thanksgiving to see what they were thankful for this holiday. The veteran UTB dogs did not change their answer from last years post when they hijacked the blog on Thanksgiving.

The newbies have found a voice and wanted to follow in the footsteps of the elder statesmen on UTB.

So, without further ado, here is the newbies Thanksgiving post...

First, it's about time they let us speak. This whole initiation thing, brought about by the other dogs, is like living in a frat house!

Camilla says she joins the ball crazy club.

River says he is most grateful for mom,mom,mom, mom. He then said "did you get that? I said Mom!".

Cynic said it is a tie between all the new people in his life and food.

Bailey2 said it is a toss up between the orange ball, which she then "tossed" up in the air to catch herself, and Splash Dogs.

Riot said she is a pup just trying to figure this whole thing out, but the cold, wet weather in Utah isn't on her list, yet.

Mati said "me Madre".

Banshee, who really isn't a newbie, chimed in too. She said returning to flyball practice is what she is thankful for.

The veteran UTB dogs, after hearing the young ones speak and feeling a little guilty, wanted to add a little something.

Lucie, the wise leader and speaker of the group, stated; " As much trouble as we give you young ones, we want you to know how thankful we are to have you all on UTB. You are the future of the club. All joking aside, what we veterans are most thankful for this year, is our newbies..... "

My Name is Jake - Hear me Bark!!!

Hello world wide web!

I am Jake - aka - Jaker's, Jakie, the Mouth, Mama's Boy, Jake the Snake, Spoiled - well you get the idea...

I came into my forever home in May of 2003. My dad found me...

I am not suppose to know this, but can you believe my Mom wanted my sister over me??!! But my dad pointed out my really cool ,unique markings - and well, he knows what to say to the mom lady! Home I came....

Mom started pretty early teaching me the ropes of being a puppy - like - the ball and water. But hello mom lady - I am a lab - those things come natural!

I was a mischievous puppy - I would list all the things I did that i shouldn't have - but well, I think the below photo will tell you the story of how naughty I could be!!!

Enough about the younger days , I say...

I enjoy lots of activities; snow tug,

swimming with my sisters,

Course A Lure..(Mom has stopped saying those words in our house because I start barking as soon as i hear it)

Really - I could go on and on (ya know wind bag)....

But what I love, almost as much as the mom lady, is FLYBALL!!!!
In, spring of 06, Mom heard about this cool game on a local forum. She thought about how much I like balls and how well I catch. So she contacted Utah Tail Blazers

With Judy and G's help, we started to train. It was hard work..

I argued a lot because she wanted me to hit this box thing - but she wouldn't put a ball in it. Really - what the heck??!!! But the more we came to practice, the better I got (and the more I would whine in the car on the way to practice to show Mom lady just how much I appreciated her taking me there).

But in June of 07, I attended my very first tournament and well - GAME ON - for both the mom lady and I...

There was this fire in my belly - fire to get the ball, fire to beat the dog in the other lane, fire for border collie tail (opps)...

Thanks to all my UTB members for letting Mom and I play flyball with you all. We really are so proud and honored to be part of such a great group of dogs and humans.....It's an activity we both love so much...... GO GREEN!!!

Well, gotta get back to sleeping...barking at flyball takes a lot out of me...Remember, next time you are looking for me, just close you eyes and listen. You will probably hear me in the lanes before you see me "WOOF!"

A note from the Mom lady...
Jake is a humble guy and doesn't like to brag about himself or care about titles or placement...
But, well, I can't let this post go by without a few brags for the boy...

Jake is currently the 6th fastest lab in U-FLI. His current titles in flyball are; FDCH-S and TFP. In addition, he is usually in the top 4 fastest big dogs at Course A Lure. He has a handful of gold medals from the CAL.
Like his mom, he is competitive.. Jake gives whatever he does 110% - on and off the field.

He is an amazing athlete, with a huge heart. I am so grateful and blessed that he is part of my life.

He really is a good boy...

Wild Outdoor Festival

Some of the UTB dogs attended the Wild Outdoor Festival this past weekend.

A few of our dogs participated in Splash Dogs.
Our most valuable hight dog Lucie, placed 2nd in the lap dog competition. Way to go Lucie!! We heard you were one of the highlights of Splash Dogs this weekend.

Our resident Splash Dog 2008 Pro Division Champ Blink jumped a 24.8 inches. He is such a star!

One of our newest UTB members, Bailey, jumped her personal best of 19.5 inches - giving her 2nd place in open finals. Three cheers for Bailey!!!!!!

UTB dogs also participated in Course A Lure.
Let's hear some applause for one of our green dogs, Sneek, who was the fastest big dog this weekend with a time of 13.96. Her brother, Jake,ran the course in 14.02. We are wondering what their mother is feeding them??!! She says nothing special, they are just CAL junkies!!!

Continue that applause for the fastest small dog, Dezzie, with a time of 15.29. Way to go Darling Dezzie!!!!!!!!!

A HUGE CONGRATS, goes out to our very own Zoey. Out of 350 paws running the CAL, she was the fastest big dog on Saturday ! Way to go Zoey!!!!!!!

Utah Tail Blazers had a busy and record breaking weekend at the Stampede tournament.

First, a HUGE congrats goes out to Touch N Go for running a new world record of 14.963!

Some of our dogs ran their person best time this past weekend;

Molly and Hannah - first tournament ran in the 4.5's

Speaking of Molly and Hannah - WAY TO GO! These girls and their humans fell into the racing lanes as if they had been playing flyball FOREVER. We swear, we will see Carol in an U-FLI judge outfit in the near future.

Let's not forget our true flyball dogs, Grommit and Lucie, who ran their hearts out on a pick up team and did not blink an eye!

UTB had not one, but two perfect starts this past weekend. Both Jim and Jana hit the 0.00! GO GO GO!

And last but not least - HECK YEA - new UTB record of 18.082!!!!!!

Today, at the last race of the day, Socrates earned his NAFA Flyball Master title.
It was all done in Santa Clara in beautiful Southern Utah, surrounded by red rocks and accompanied by a fairly strong breeze.
Dogs in the lineup that helped Soc attain the last bit of points today were Zoey, Jake and our tireless Lucie. CONGRATULATIONS to all for such a great job in the racing lanes.
Later, we all got to enjoy a fruity delite, Socrates included of course.... mmmmmmm.

Outdoor Tournament Time

A few of the UTB dogs will be attending a NAFA outdoor tournament this weekend, sponsored by Flying Colors Flyball Team.

Socrates is running for his Flyball Master Title. Paws and fingers are crossed!

The Red Baron

Meet Ryker aka Red Baron

His Canadian Dad comes from famous flyball lines and his California Mom is an active herding dog. His great-grand dad "Flash", Moy of Spunk, is a 1996 NAFA Hall of Fame winner.

Ryker is a very busy boy.
He has been training and successfully trialing in Obedience and Rally, where he recently earned the highest AKC Rally Title; Rally-Advanced Excellent (RAE) without ever NQing throughout his entire Rally career.

He's been maniacally training and just recently racing in Flyball,

He's pursuing an equally versatile career in Agility, earning numerous titles in AKC, ASCA, DOCNA and USDAA. He's also currently chasing qualifiers for the 2009 USDAA World Games.

He is famous for his tricks which can be seen here on You Tube.

In what spare time he has left, he loves to jump on the trampoline and swim in his backyard pond. And of course he loves to fetch or tug anything.

All of Ryker's training has been done using a clicker without the use of any verbal scolding or physical punishment. He is eager to work anytime, anywhere and just about for anyone.

He is a sweetheart at home and enjoys relaxing near his favorite older brother Raygen and sister Rylie.

He made his debut with UTB in January of 2009. He was very successful , evident in the look on his Mom's face below. He posted his best singles time of 4.172 and the best is yet to come.

This boy just keeps getting better and better.

We are excited to have the Red Baron Ryker on UTB team.

Murray, Utah 84107

Hours are;
Saturday 10:00 am
Sunday 10:00 am

No training or experience needed. All dogs are welcome.

Tested, approved and loved by all the UTB dogs!
